A vintage coffee shop which often appears in old Japanese drama. Run by a mother and her grandmother, the cafe serves homey set breakfast and coffee. Classical music is played throughout the morning to cleanse your thoughts. A nice little place to begin your morning.

I recently enjoyed lunch at Coffee Room Morinaga, a long-established coffee shop located just a five-minute walk from Wakayama Station. This historic café, founded in 1947, exudes a Showa-era retro ambiance that evokes a sense of nostalgia. I ordered the morning set for 650 yen, which included fresh vegetables, perfectly cooked bacon and eggs, and homemade bread, all of which were delicious and of high quality. The staff were very friendly, making it easy to relax and enjoy my time there. The proprietor's warm personality is reflected throughout the entire establishment. Despite being a regular spot for many locals, the café made me feel at home on my first visit, providing a comforting and welcoming atmosphere. I also tried the omelet rice and coffee float. The omelet rice, though simple, showcased the quality of the ingredients, and the coffee float had a delightful old-fashioned taste. Every dish was carefully prepared, contributing to a highly satisfying dining experience. The café's standout features include its nostalgic Showa-era atmosphere and excellent coffee. The interior is enhanced by classical music playing in the background, creating a serene environment perfect for unwinding. Additionally, the café is one of the few places where smoking is allowed, making it a haven for smokers. While there is no parking available on-site, nearby coin-operated parking lots can be used. This minor inconvenience is easily overshadowed by the café's charm and appeal. For those looking to experience a piece of history while enjoying delicious coffee and food in Wakayama, Coffee Room Morinaga is a must-visit. I definitely plan to return

Very comfortable and nice old fashioned Japanese cafe. First opened in the Showa period (1947). We just had coffee but we had a nice 90 minutes here. Next time I would like to try some lunch or dessert. The shop staff are very attentive and kind. A black coffee is 350 yen and a cafe au lait is 400 yen. You are served a complimentary cup of green tea. A great place to relax alone or to have a chat with a friend. The tables had ashtrays but luckily nobody was smoking when we were there. I would come back here.
